A meeting between Azerbaijani Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov and Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedović Handanović highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships between the two countries. The meeting highlighted the potential for cooperation in natural gas and electricity fields. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy and Serbia’s Ministry of Mining and Energy on promoting cooperation between SOCAR and Srbijagas, as well as an agreement on gas sales. Shahbazov emphasised the importance of energy cooperation for the development of bilateral relations, emphasising the need for partnerships in the field of natural gas.
The agreement also paved the way for the sustainability of the gas supply partnership with long-term contracts and Azerbaijan’s contributions to Serbia’s energy security. Serbia’s Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedović Handanović highlighted the contract’s potential to diversify energy sources and strengthen its role as a transit country for gas distribution to Central Europe. The agreement also includes the supply of LNG to Serbia, cooperation in gas storage areas, participation in gas trading operations, and construction of gas power plants.
