The Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (PMLP) will send information letters to Russian citizens who have not submitted documents requesting their status as long-term residents of the European Union (EU).
By September 1, 3,541 Russian citizens had not submitted documents or applied for a re-examination of their official language competence. Their permanent residence permits expired on September 2, and they must leave the territory of Latvia by November 30, 2023. If they wish to continue living in Latvia and are subject to the Law on the status of a long-term resident of the European Union in Latvia or any grounds laid down in the Immigration Law, they can submit an appropriate application to the PMLP. In total, 13,147 Russian citizens have registered for the Latvian language test, with 39% passing on their first attempt.
Over 6,500 people have applied for a re-examination.
