A Turkish consortium, consisting of companies from Turkey, has filed a lawsuit against Latvia for its exclusion from a major Rail Baltica procurement process.
The consortium claims that the decision to exclude one of the two candidates from the procurement is illegal and not legally justified. They claim that they submitted a bid that was almost €1bn cheaper than the rival bidder, a consortium of Italian, French, and Polish companies and that they were victims of a political decision by the EU countries.
The Turkish consortium also questions why the VDD did not exclude the Italian company „Rizzani de Eccher SPA” or French „Eiffage Génie Civil SAS” – who continue to increase revenue from work on Russia’s territory after the Russian invasion of Ukraine and have clients on the EU’s sanctions list.
The Turkish companies also claim that Latvia is already lagging behind Estonia and Lithuania on the Rail Baltica project, which gives an unflattering image of Latvia on the international scale and may lead to significant financial losses due to its questionable procurement procedure.
