Taiwan Foreign Minister On Baltic Tour

2023/11/12
in Politics

Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Joseph Wu is set to visit Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia from November 6-12. The visit will involve attending forums and giving public speeches to highlight Taiwan’s commitment to democracy. Wu will also deliver two speeches at the Latvian Institute of International Affairs and the International Centre for Defence and Security in Estonia. He will also meet with political and academic representatives from the three countries to discuss various political, economic, and societal issues. The visits are seen as evidence of increasing bilateral exchange and interactions between Taiwan and the Baltic countries, as seen in recent visits by Estonian Parliament chairman Marko Mihkelson, Lithuanian counterpart Žygimantas Pavilionis, and Latvian counterpart Rihards Kols.

Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, speaker of the Lithuanian parliament, also visited Taiwan Oct. 22-25. The Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the visits proof of increasing bilateral exchange and interactions between Taiwan and the Baltic countries.
