Saeima Speaker Daiga Mierina (Greens/Farmers) and Polish Ambassador to Latvia, Monika Michaliszyn, discussed the Baltic states’ leadership in supporting Ukraine and maintaining a firm stance against Russia. Mierina emphasised Poland’s close partnership in security and trade, and the strategic partnership between Latvia and Poland. She also emphasised the need to promote joint initiatives, including sanctions, to ensure effective and efficient sanctions. The Saeima Speaker also discussed the development of the Rail Baltica and Via Baltica infrastructure projects, inviting Polish entrepreneurs to participate.
Mierina also discussed strengthening cooperation in culture and education. She met with Greek Ambassador to Latvia, Efthymios Efthymiades, who agreed to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression. Mierina thanked the ambassador for his personal contribution to strengthening bilateral relations and expressed confidence in continuing to develop close contacts between the two countries. The two parties also discussed opportunities for tourism development, with direct flights facilitating tourism flows after the Covid-19 pandemic.
