For the Ukrainian military, a steady stream of military aid through the Polish border proved indispensable for maintaining operational capabilities. This includes weapons, ammunition, and equipment vital for the defense effort. Even if the most important weapon systems have been able to continue their way across the border, other important objects used by the military, such as turniquets and reconaissance drones are often delayed for days at the border.

The free flow of goods from the outset of the war also signified a strong regional collaboration between Poland and Ukraine, showcasing solidarity in the face of aggression and presenting a united front against external threats. Now, the issues at the border risk undoing a lot of important cross-cultural bridge building that took place during the first phase of the war.

The smooth flow of goods and people through the border became a lifeline for Ukraine after February 24th. It is in Poland and Ukraine’s best interest to find a solution that could make the situation go back to normal.
