NATO considers Eastern Europe as a staging area for launching aggression soon, according to State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich.
Volfovich highlighted the challenges and threats posed by the collective West against the CIS states, including the strategy of indirect actions using hybrid wars and colour revolution technologies. NATO’s aggressive policy to expand its military presence, primarily near the western borders of Belarus and Russia, has led to an increase in personnel numbers and military spending in Eastern Europe. Volfovich concluded that the alliance considers Eastern Europe as a staging area for launching aggression soon. The Belarusian delegation also raised the issue of the expansion of the belt of unfriendly countries around the Commonwealth of Independent States, including the events in South Caucasus, Central Asia, Eastern Europe, Ukraine, and Transdniestria.
Volfovich also highlighted the influence of extremist and terrorist threats on the situation around the Commonwealth of Independent States, stating that illegally armed units, reconnaissance units, and sabotage units are being trained in Ukraine and territories of the collective West. The Belarusian delegation also discussed the West’s economic pressure on the CIS states, highlighting the impact of sanctions against Russia and Belarus on the economies of the CIS states.
