Amazon Sets Its Sights on Romania

2023/11/22
in Politics

Amazon Development Centre Romania (ADCR) showcased its innovative work during GoTech World, a two-day conference in Bucharest, Romania. The event attracted 13,800 professionals, including 6,000 from the tech sector, and featured 165 speakers covering topics such as cybersecurity, AI, Java, DevOps, IT Ops, UX/UI, and Digital Marketing. ADCR employs experts in Cloud Computing, Information Security, Machine Learning, and Data Analysis, as well as business teams in Retail, Compliance, Digital Imaging Services, and Amazon Creative Services.

Dinesh Rajasekharan, Amazon’s Principal PMT for Security Products, Identity & Access Management, discussed the challenges of enhancing access security for critical resources on the Business Transformation Stage. Alex Balint, Amazon’s Sr. Manager SDO Privacy, discussed the impact of social media and AI on data privacy, emphasising the need for robust protective measures. Ciprian Hodorogea, Amazon’s Sr. Manager in Software Development – Compliance & Safety, introduced the AI Stage, providing insights into the possibilities and challenges of generative AI.

Valentin Radu, Applied Scientist at Ring, highlighted the hidden costs of AI, particularly its environmental impact, emphasising the importance of sustainable AI practices and addressing energy consumption challenges associated with this technology. These talks showcased Amazon’s commitment to democratising and advancing the cutting edge of technology.

Romania is attractive to Amazon due to its skilled workforce, lower labor costs, and strategic location in Europe. The country offers a growing tech talent pool, multilingual proficiency, and competitive operational costs. Additionally, Romania’s EU membership facilitates seamless access to the European market, making it an ideal hub for Amazon’s logistics and customer service operations. There is also a process of synergy as Amazon is expanding in the entire region, making it easier for its Romanian branch to cooperate with, for example, its Polish branch.
