Tens of thousands of people gathered in the center of Belgrade on Sunday to protest against the ruling authorities. Demonstrators hold the government responsible for the deaths of 15 people after the roof of the railway station in Novi Sad collapsed. This protest is one of many mass demonstrations related to the incident.
On Sunday evening, protesters lit up their mobile phones and stood in silence for 15 minutes to commemorate the victims of the tragedy. Some shouted, „Vučić, thief!” while others held banners reading, „You have blood on your hands.”
Students from state universities in Belgrade, Kragujevac, and Niš have been protesting for weeks, demanding the release of all documents related to the station’s renovation as well as the criminal prosecution of officials responsible for the disaster. Participants are also calling for the identification and prosecution of individuals who attacked demonstrators and the release of detained activists, along with the dismissal of ongoing proceedings against them. Each day, they block traffic in front of their faculties for 15 minutes to honor the 15 victims. The action involves over 50 faculties across the country.
