In February, Riga Airport welcomed 433,000 passengers, bringing the total number of travelers since the beginning of the year to approximately 900,000—an increase of 11% compared to the first two months of 2024. Similarly, the number of flights handled by the airport grew by 8% in February and by 10% since the start of the year.
A consistent 20% of all passengers use Riga Airport as a transit or transfer hub. The average flight occupancy remains high at approximately 75%. The most popular destinations from Riga include the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Sweden.
In February, the majority of passengers were carried by Latvia’s national airline, airBaltic, while the Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair accounted for 35% of total passengers.
Additionally, the volume of aviation cargo handled at Riga Airport has increased by more than 20% since the beginning of the year, largely due to the regular cargo services provided by Lufthansa Cargo. Since January, the airport has processed over 3,000 tonnes of aviation cargo.
