Polish Blueberries Break Into Vietnam: A Historic Market Opening

2025/09/26
in Agriculture

Polish blueberry producers have scored a major breakthrough. As of September 16, 2025, fresh highbush blueberries from Poland can now be exported directly to Vietnam. The country’s plant health authority has confirmed that Polish orchards and packing facilities meet all phytosanitary requirements, officially opening one of Asia’s most dynamic markets to the fruit.

From Vision to Reality

The process of securing access to the Vietnamese market has taken nearly a decade. Talks began back in 2017, with the phytosanitary protocol finally approved in 2024. In August 2025, a Vietnamese delegation of experts conducted a detailed audit of Polish farms and packaging centers. The outcome was a complete success, with Polish practices judged to meet the highest international safety and quality standards.

Expanding into Asia

Polish blueberries have already made inroads in India. Now Vietnam, with nearly 100 million consumers, represents a significant next step. Beyond its size, Vietnam also serves as a key logistics hub for Southeast Asia. The free trade agreement between Vietnam and the European Union (EVFTA) further reduces tariffs and streamlines export procedures, making the market especially attractive for European producers.

Poland’s Food Industry Strengthens Its Position

Poland is already a strong agri-food trade partner for Vietnam. In 2024, Polish exports to the country reached €193.4 million, marking a 10% increase year-on-year. Poultry meat and offal, natural casings, and processed fish products currently dominate the trade. With blueberries now added to the list, Poland’s so-called “blue gold” is set to further enhance the country’s export profile.

A New Chapter for Growers

For Polish farmers, the opening of the Vietnamese market offers a powerful opportunity to expand sales and strengthen their international presence. Success in Vietnam could also pave the way for further penetration into other Asian markets, where demand for healthy, high-quality food is steadily rising.

Polish blueberries have already won global recognition. Now, with Vietnam as the latest destination, they are beginning a new and promising chapter in their worldwide journey.
