On Sunday, 11 January 2026, an incident at Warsaw’s Chopin Airport triggered security procedures. Officers from the Special Intervention Group of the Warsaw-Okęcie Border Guard Facility carried out an urgent intervention following a report from airport security staff.
According to information passed to the services, a 29-year-old Ukrainian citizen waiting for a flight to Zurich was moving around the passenger pier with the word “bomb” visibly written on her forehead. The woman was immediately isolated, identified, and then subjected to a thorough personal search and baggage check.
As officers emphasized, no dangerous items or materials were found during the inspection. The passenger reportedly explained that she had written the word in lipstick “as a joke.”
Despite the lack of any real threat, the situation was treated as a serious breach of the safety rules and procedures in force at airports. Under the provisions of Poland’s Aviation Law, the woman was fined 500 PLN. In addition, the carrier decided to remove her from the flight.
The Border Guard reminds passengers that any situations suggesting a potential threat are treated with the utmost seriousness. Even seemingly “harmless jokes” can lead to an immediate response by services, legal consequences, and disruption to other passengers’ travel plans.
