Gaz-System, the operator of Poland’s gas transmission network and the LNG terminal in Świnoujście, is setting new records for gas throughput—daily, monthly, and annual—and is also preparing to collect bids from companies interested in a second floating terminal, Puls Biznesu reported on Wednesday.
A harsh winter brought a string of records for Gaz-System, the daily noted. The first is the annual volume of gas transmitted: in 2025 it reached as much as 22.8 billion cubic meters. The second is the daily transmission volume: on January 8 it amounted to 108 million cubic meters, but that record was already surpassed on February 2, when throughput hit 114.8 million cubic meters. The third is the monthly figure: in January, transmission exceeded 3 billion cubic meters for the first time.
Last year, Gaz-System sent 2 billion cubic meters of gas abroad—13 times more than in 2024. More than 99% of the exported gas went to Ukraine.
“Gaz-System now faces the challenge of organizing the open season procedure for the planned second floating gas terminal in Gdańsk. Interest is high—these are Polish and foreign companies, including from Slovakia. Our goal is to create pro-market, flexible commercial terms,” Sławomir Hinc told PB.
It is worth recalling that the first floating FSRU unit (Floating Storage Regasification Unit) is being built in the Bay of Gdańsk and is to be launched in early 2028. This is a permanently moored vessel capable of unloading LNG, storing it, and regasifying it. It will be designed to handle at least 6.1 billion cubic meters of gas per year. A non-binding market survey regarding a potential second unit—attended by entities from countries in the region—showed that demand for LNG regasification services provided by Poland is very high. Gaz-System plans an annual regasification capacity for FSRU 2 of 4.5 billion cubic meters.
As Hinc emphasizes, the interest in using a second FSRU means that Poland has become a gas hub “in the truest sense.”
He also points to January gas imports from Germany. Thanks to a reduction in the transmission tariff on the Yamal pipeline (a pipeline once used to transport gas from Russia, and—after Russia’s full-scale attack on Ukraine in 2022—taken over by Orlen, the editor notes), buyers appeared for gas from that direction. “This shows the scale of trade development. Poland is becoming a transit country,” said CEO Sławomir Hinc.
