Ukraine has imposed a package of sanctions on Alexander Lukashenko, and we will significantly intensify efforts to counter every form of his assistance in killing Ukrainians. We will work with our partners so that this has a global impact,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a social-media post.
“In the second half of 2025, the Russians deployed on the territory of Belarus a system of relay stations for controlling combat drones, which increased the Russian army’s ability to carry out strikes on our northern regions — from the Kyiv Oblast to Volyn,” Zelenskyy wrote on X.
The president of Ukraine’s eastern neighbour made it clear that Lukashenko has played a significant role in the war currently being fought in Ukraine.
“The Russians would not have been able to carry out some attacks — especially against energy facilities and railway lines in our regions — without such support from Belarus. More than 3,000 Belarusian enterprises have been put at the service of Russia’s war and supply machines, equipment and components classified as ‘critically important,’ including components for the production of missiles that terrorise our towns and villages,” he added.
According to Zelenskyy, Lukashenko not only made Belarusian territory available for the medium-range missile system Oreshnik, but Belarusian enterprises also supplied Russia with key components for that weapon. “This practice is continuing in 2026 as well,” Zelenskyy emphasised.
“Alexander Lukashenko has long been trading Belarus’s sovereignty for the preservation of his personal power, helping the Russians to circumvent global sanctions imposed for this aggression, actively justifying Russia’s war, and now further increasing his involvement in its escalation and prolongation. This will have specific consequences,” Zelenskyy concluded.
