The U.S. Embassy in Lithuania reported that, following negotiations in Minsk, a U.S.-led delegation is en route from Belarus to Vilnius with 52 released prisoners of various nationalities. A spokesperson for Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Poles are among those freed and currently traveling from Belarus.
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda announced that the group includes “opposition activists, journalists, participants in protests, and foreign nationals,” among them six citizens of Lithuania. He confirmed that the prisoners released by Belarus are citizens of the United Kingdom, Latvia, Poland, Germany, Lithuania, and France.
Paweł Wroński, spokesperson for Poland’s Foreign Ministry, stated that Poles are indeed among the released prisoners traveling from Belarus, adding that the ministry will provide details on the individuals soon. According to the Belarusian state agency BelTA, two of those released are Polish citizens.
