Bratislava: locals unsuccessfully try to catch an escaped parrot. The bird has been roaming Ružinov for days

An unusual “visitor” has appeared in Bratislava’s Ružinov district in recent days, drawing growing attention from local residents. A pet parrot has escaped from its home and has become a small neighbourhood sensation, with photos and updates from new sightings quickly spreading on social media.

According to residents, the bird is skittish and avoids close contact. It has been spotted in different parts of the area: perching in trees, flying between balconies and apartment buildings, and occasionally landing on building façades. Although many people have tried to lure and catch it, these attempts have so far been unsuccessful.

Some locals have noticed the parrot feeding on grain left out for smaller birds. At the same time, experienced parrot keepers warn that while colder temperatures may not pose an immediate threat, staying outdoors for a longer period could become dangerous due to limited access to suitable food.

Online, a wave of advice has emerged on how to help the bird safely. The most common suggestions include placing food near an open cage—on a windowsill, for example—so the bird can enter on its own, as well as offering temporary shelter if it can be caught without putting the animal at risk. Several local bird keepers have already declared they are ready to help.

Residents are now appealing for the parrot’s owner to come forward as soon as possible—or for anyone who recognises the bird to help identify where it escaped from. The goal is to bring the animal safely back home before it comes to harm.
