Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Luminita Odobescu met with Japanese State Minister Kiyoto Tsuji during his one-day visit to Bucharest. The two officials discussed security in the region and exchanged views on regional and international issues. Tsuji also met with Romania’s Secretary of State for Global Affairs and Diplomatic Strategies, Traian Hristea, who presented Romania’s position on Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. The two officials exchanged views on Romania’s role in ensuring regional security and its diplomatic efforts. Tsuji expressed Japan’s increased interest in regional platforms where Romania has an active profile, such as the Three Seas Initiative (3SI).
„Taking into account Romania’s belonging to the community of European and Euro-Atlantic values, the Secretary of State referenced the stance of our country, which is in line with the EU and NATO approach, both as regards the entire Indo-Pacific region and other regional files of interest for both parties. The Japanese Minister of State highlighted Japan’s concern for the careful management of the current security challenges, with special attention to the evolution of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, emphasising the interdependence of the security situations in Europe and the Indo-Pacific,” read a Romanian Foreign Ministry statement.
