Chinese Delegation Visits Vukovar to Explore Logistics Hub Tied to China–Europe Routes

2025/09/14
in Logistics

A delegation from China’s Hebei Province, led by Vice-Governor Jin Hui, visited Vukovar to discuss creating a logistics hub that would deepen trade links and transport connectivity between Croatia and China. Talks involved representatives of Hebei Province, Vukovar-Srijem County, the Port of Vukovar, and the Zagreb-based company Special Economic Zone.

Discussions focused on integrating the Port of Vukovar with rail connections along China–Europe corridors, leveraging new trans-Caspian routes, and positioning Vukovar as a node for multimodal transport. Officials also agreed to continue cooperation with Hebei International Land Port Group. County Prefect Ivan Bosančić said the emphasis on logistics should yield early results at the port, while Port Director Marijan Kuprešak noted the plan envisions a container storage and transshipment hub. He added that around 80% of current port capacity could be activated immediately without additional investment—an important step after revenues fell by roughly 60% due to the war in Ukraine.

The cooperation extends to nearby Osijek Airport, where a 30,000-square-metre warehouse has already been secured for distributing Chinese goods. According to Special Economic Zone, in partnership with Hebei Logistics, eastern Croatia is viewed as a strategic location for linking waterways, roads, rail and air.

Hina, Croatia’s national news agency, reported the visit as part of broader efforts to boost economic cooperation, logistics capacity and two-way trade.
