Czechia is set to establish its first artificial intelligence factory, the Czech AI Factory (CZAI), centered around a new state-of-the-art AI supercomputer named KarolAIna, located in the city of Ostrava.
The project, led by the Technical University of Ostrava (VŠB–TUO), will cost approximately CZK 1 billion (around EUR 40 million) and was selected as part of a European initiative to create AI factories under the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking.
According to university spokeswoman Jana Dronská, the facility will serve as a major technological hub for AI development in Central Europe.
“CZAI and the KarolAIna supercomputer will support small and medium-sized enterprises, industry, public institutions, and research organizations,” Dronská told the Czech News Agency. “The goal is to accelerate the development and adoption of artificial intelligence across the country.”
The project aims to strengthen Czechia’s position in the European digital ecosystem by fostering innovation and collaboration between academia, government, and business. It will also provide advanced computing capacity for research in areas such as manufacturing automation, smart cities, energy efficiency, and health technologies.
The KarolAIna system is expected to be operational within the next two years and will become one of the most powerful AI-focused supercomputers in Central and Eastern Europe.
