2023/06/13
in Infrastructures

In January-May 2023, Danube ports processed a record 11.5 million tons of cargo, according to the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA). The head of USPA, Yurii Lytvyn, stated that the Danube ports had processed 16 million tons of cargo in 2022, and in 5 months, the cargo roll reached 11.5 million tons. The USPA also reported that about USD 97 million was raised in the development of port infrastructure in 2022 and the 1st quarter of 2023, with the figure expected to reach over $100 million by the end of 2023. In May, Danube ports processed over 3 million tons of cargo, an absolute record for ports in the region.
„With regard to the Danube, we already have quite impressive indicators. For 2022, 16 million tons of cargo were processed by ports, and in 5 months of 2023 a new record of cargo roll has already been updated (according to operational data) – 11.5 million tons,” said Yurii Lytvyn, head of USPA.

Russia is aiming to restore its influence in Moldova and use the country, particularly in the war against Ukraine.

Ana Revenco, Minister of Internal Affairs of Moldova, emphasised that Russia is waging a hybrid war in Moldova, involving manipulation of the population, radical mood, non-peaceful demonstrations, and news and fakes. The EU has also sanctioned fugitives from Moldova, including oligarchs Vladimir Plahotniuk and Ilan Shor, top deputy of the Shor party Marina Tauber, former deputy head of the General Inspectorate of Police Georgi Kavkaliuk, and Russian businessman Igor Chaika.
