The Ukrainian port of Reni in the Odessa region has accepted a record bulk carrier, thanks to improvements in port infrastructure.
“The Blue Gate bulk carrier, with a record deadweight of 24,000 tonnes, is being loaded at the Reni port today, on June 14. For the Danube ports it is the first dry cargo vessel of such a deadweight in the history of independent Ukraine,” the port administration said in the message.
The Administration of Seaports, in collaboration with businesses and the Ministry for the Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure, is implementing infrastructure development measures in the Danube Delta to accommodate such vessels in infrastructure projects expected to exceed $110 million in 2023. The administration emphasised its increasing fleet tonnage, ship calls intensity, and technological re-equipment which has increased transshipment volume. In total 391 vessels, including 134 sea vessels and 257 river vessels, were accommodated at the port of Reni last month.
In May 2023, the Reni commercial port accommodated 391 vessels, including sea and river vessels, reaching a record 1 million tonnes.
