Danone plans to invest €50 million in expanding its facility in Opole, Poland, to create a new medical nutrition production line.
The expansion is in response to growing demand for the category as populations age and chronic diseases increase. The new production line will cover 7,000 square meters of additional space and is one of the largest Danone factories in Europe, covering almost 13 hectares and employing 700 people. Specialised nutrition, including medical nutrition, constitutes 30% of Danone’s overall revenue. The new production line will cater to patients who rely on feeding tubes due to their inability to swallow or consume liquids normally. Opole will become Danone’s second European facility to manufacture the company’s enteral nutrition range, Nutrison. Danone CEO Antoine de Saint-Affrique said the line expansion will accelerate innovation within adult medical nutrition and result in more agility in the supply chain. This expansion is the latest example of Danone’s Renew Danone strategy, as they invest to meet evolving health needs and develop adult nutrition activities.
