Elections in Lithuania

The opposition Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) declared victory in the parliamentary elections on Sunday evening. The leader of the previously ruling conservative party, Gabrielius Landsbergis, congratulated them on their win.

“This is a good result, and I wish them success in forming a responsible government,” said Landsbergis, the leader of the Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD), to journalists.

In the first round of elections on October 13, the Social Democrats won 18 seats in the Seimas, and in the second round, held on Sunday, they contested 37 mandates, leading or having already won in 30 single-member districts.

The Lithuanian Seimas consists of 141 deputies.
