Slovak Premier Robert Fico and Culture Minister Martina Simkovicova have agreed that the Culture Ministry must focus on strengthening the cultural traditions and heritage of the Slovak nation. Fico believes the Culture Ministry is crucial for Slovakia and asks the minister to ensure the ministry pays attention to the legacy of important milestones, events, and figures in Slovak history.
„Though smaller and working under difficult financial conditions, this ministry can do more for Slovakia than several other ministries put together,” said Fico.
He expects a different philosophy from the previous three years and believes the new minister’s team will be able to carry this out. Simkovicova also agrees with Fico’s vision of the ministry’s activities, focusing on national culture and traditions while respecting other cultures. She believes that putting Slovak figures, traditions, and history in the foreground will help reduce societal polarisation. Fico is scheduled to visit the Defence and Finance Ministries on Monday.
„Please, pay attention to the traditions of Great Moravia and Saints Cyril and Methodius, to the revolutionary years 1848 and 1849, to important Slovak figures. Don’t forget such significant events and dates as July 17, the Day of the Adoption of the Declaration on the Sovereignty of Slovakia,” urged Fico.
