Former security minister Selmo Cikotić has requested acquittal of abuse of office charges at his trial in Sarajevo. Cikotić, accused of abuse of office, completed evidentiary proceedings and the closing arguments of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina were scheduled for October 31. Defence witness Fadil Bihorac stated that he was appointed to the team responsible for implementing the contract with Croatian company “Scout”. However, the process faced several problems, including inadequately organised financial documentation and the lack of valid documentation from Mario Šego from the Logistics Sector. Bihorac also claimed that Šego and Dalibor Perić made lists related to the destruction of surplus weapons, which they delivered to the minister but did not contain assets that were the subject of sale to “Scout”.
With the arrival of Marina Pendeš as the Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bihorac was removed from the team because he handed over part of the documentation to the Agency for Investigations and Protection Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The defence was interested in whether the name of the accused Cikotić was on the list, which the witness denied.
The indictment accuses Cikotić of using his official position and favouring the company “Scout” from Zagreb, in agreement with other persons, with the aim of obtaining benefits from 2009 to 2011.
