Slovenia – Maršal Twito has struck again… Slovenia’s former Prime Minister Janez Janša has once again caused a stir with an somehow outrageous post on X (formerly Twitter).
In a long post entitled „The devil took the joke. Arm yourselves. Legally” published on 22 October, Janša discussed illegal immigration and internal security. And it is a veritable indictment of the migration and security policies of the current Slovenian government led by the green-progressive Robert Golob, which he clearly considers as not “able to protect Slovenia and to protect [the people] in the event of terrorist attacks.”
“They are panicking about reintroducing border controls”
He also denounced that the current Slovenian government has “been ignoring calls since June [from Janša’s SDS party] to convene a National Security Council in order to discuss measures to curb illegal migration and manage security risks.” Instead of that, “they have been tearing down the fence [at the border], and now, when they are panicking about reintroducing border controls with their neighbours …”
“Slovenian police officers should not play the role of taxi drivers to asylum houses”
Janša reprimanded Golob for declaring that “the only solution to the problem of illegal migration is to make it – legal!” He also criticised Interior Minister Boštjan Poklukar for having very officially considered that the Slovenian police “has proven its competence by having processed more than 40,000 illegal migrants in the asylum procedure in Slovenia this year! […] We believe Slovenian police officers would rather prevent illegal migration than play the role of taxi drivers to asylum houses”.
Jansa clearly expressed his fear that events similar to the Hamas attack could occur in Europe: “The latest incursion into Israel by Palestinian terrorists […] has reaffirmed the importance of a well-armed people in a lawful and orderly manner.”
Finally, he concludes with these words: “Even today, at least three things are clear […]: 1. that we can expect with a high probability an escalation of the security situation, 2. that the current authorities are not even remotely capable of timely assessment, preparation and action, [and] 3. that everyone is therefore entitled and obliged to do everything possible within the framework of the constitutional order to protect his family and his country. Therefore: the Devil has taken the joke. Arm yourselves. Legally.”
Golob: “calls for armaments are completely irresponsible”
In response to his predecessor’s diatribe, the Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob, Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon and Culture Minister Asta Bago issued a statement condemning “the fuelling of panic, hatred and populism” and rejecting “calls for armaments”: “The calls for small arms, even if legal, witnessed in recent days by the champion of the largest opposition party are completely irresponsible. […] Such calls are contrary to the values of modern and democratic Slovenia and are not in the spirit of a Europe of solidarity.”
