The United States and the rest of the G7 will unveil new sanctions and export controls targeting Russia over its war against Ukraine. At the summit, he’d in Hiroshima, the U.S. has spearheaded tough sanctions on Russian companies, banks and individuals, and the announcement is designed to reaffirm world powers’ resolve to support Ukraine and squeeze Moscow. The U.S. will also announce new sanctions against around 300 individuals, entities, vessels and aircraft targeting Russia’s financial facilitators (about 70 nations) across Europe, the Middle East and Asia, and Russia’s future energy extracting capabilities. Washington will take steps to align its actions closely with the EU and Britain to ensure the G7 remains as coordinated as possible in response to „Russia’s brutal actions”. President Joe Biden has endorsed plans to train Ukrainian pilots on U.S.-made F-16 fighter jets.
Biden announced the sanctions in advance of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy joining the Group of Seven as a guest. The G7 nations will work to keep Russia from using the international financial system to prosecute its war, which would “further restrict Russia’s access to our economies.”
Japan, Australia, India and the U.S. are also expected to discuss how to deal with China’s growing assertiveness and military buildup as concerns rise that it could try to seize Taiwan by force. The G7 includes Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Canada and Italy, as well as the European Union.
Russia is now the most heavily sanctioned country in the World.
