Despite voter mobilization by democratic and pro-European parties, the ruling party Georgian Dream won the elections in Georgia, securing 54% of the votes—this is the official election result. The opposition announced it would not accept the verdict, claiming the outcome was fraudulent.
The ruling Georgian Dream party won the parliamentary elections in Georgia, as officially announced by Giorgi Kalandarishvili, chairman of the country’s central election commission.
Georgian Dream received over 54% of the votes, while more than 37.5% of voters supported the pro-European opposition.
The pro-European opposition declared it would not recognize the results presented by the CEC and announced protests. They are demanding the annulment of the official voting results, accusing the government of employing a “complex election-rigging scheme,” reported OC Media.
The election-monitoring coalition “My Voice” deployed approximately 2,000 social observers to polling stations nationwide.
„In light of the pre-election atmosphere, the falsification procedures used on election day, unprecedented influence on voters’ will, and instances of violence, we believe that the preliminary results published by the Central Election Commission do not reflect the will of the Georgian people,” a statement was made during a briefing.
Later in the evening, leaders of the opposition United National Movement and the Coalition for Change also declared they would not recognize the election results.
