Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis expressed optimism about the EU’s new sanctions package against Russia, stating that it is „pretty good” and „quite good”. Landsbergis believes that the final version will likely be weaker as political discussions begin. The 12th package covers „individual sanctions, sectoral sanctions, and sanctions against specific companies,” said Landsbergis.
The EU adopted its 11th package in June to close loopholes for circumventing sanctions against Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine. Poland submitted a proposal for a 12th package in October, including sanctions on Russian diamonds, restrictive measures targeting a broader range of individuals and entities, a ban on liquefied petroleum gas import from Russia, and the use of Russian information and communication technology services. This comes after the bloc blacklisted 87 entities supporting Russia’s military-industrial complex.
