Lithuania-Taiwan Fintech Collaboration Holds Strong

2023/10/21
in Macroeconomics

In spite of China’s firm stance against Lithuania for its recognition of Taiwan, the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has announced that a delegation of officials and business representatives will visit Taipei next week to discuss bilateral exchanges in financial technology and other fields.

In 2021, China imposed sanctions on Lithuania for allowing the establishment of the Taiwanese Representative Office in Vilnius.

The Fintech delegation will meet with Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-wen and other government officials. The Lithuanian delegation will participate in a financial technology forum and visit the Ultrafast Laser Technology Research and Innovation Centre in Tainan. The visit aims to advance exchanges and interactions between Taiwan and Lithuania in various areas, including science, technology, and the economy. The delegation is also expected to gain a deeper understanding of Taiwan, the situation across the Taiwan Strait, and security issues in the Asian and European regions.

The delegation will be led by Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, speaker of the Lithuanian parliament.
