During the night of 8–9 February 2026, military radar systems once again recorded objects “resembling balloons” entering Polish airspace, the Operational Command of the Armed Forces Branches reported in a morning statement published on X. The spokesperson, Lt. Col. Jacek Goryszewski, confirmed to Interia that the balloons had entered Poland from Belarus. The military stressed that the incident posed no threat either to air traffic or to the public.
According to the statement, the objects were continuously identified and remained under the supervision of military reconnaissance systems. The Command also emphasized ongoing cooperation with the services responsible for state security, so that a rapid response is possible—including retrieving the objects and detaining individuals suspected of involvement in such incidents.
This is not the first episode of this kind in recent weeks. Similar cases have been reported on several earlier nights, with official communications indicating that the objects were again approaching from the direction of Belarus.
The issue is often discussed in the context of smuggling. Border services have previously pointed out that balloon-like objects can be used to transport illegal goods across the border, and that incidents may be linked to attempts to move contraband—particularly tobacco products—into Poland.
In its latest message, the military reiterated that Poland’s Armed Forces maintain round-the-clock operational readiness to protect the country’s airspace.
