Croatia’s incumbent president, Zoran Milanović, and Dragan Primorac, the candidate of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), have advanced to the second round of the presidential elections, set to take place on January 12, the State Electoral Commission (DIP) announced on Sunday after counting votes from 99.25% of polling stations.
Milanović, who was initially projected to secure over 50% of votes in the first round and guarantee himself another term, ultimately received 49.14% of the votes. Primorac came in second with 19.41%.
The DIP reported that 46% of eligible voters participated in the elections. A total of 3,762,221 individuals were registered on the electoral roll, of which 3,512,226 reside in the Republic of Croatia, while 249,995 were registered abroad.
