From Warsaw to Washington, Poland’s Strategic Role in Ukraine

Today it is a strong and independent Ukrainian government that is in Poland’s national interest, which the current government of President Andrzej Duda has repeatedly proven by marshalling and organising the global support for its neighbour.
Since this phase of the war broke out last February, the main route for all foreign dignitaries visiting Kyiv has been by train from Chelmno in South-Eastern Poland. Though these are notably very different strategic situations and the USA is not engaging in a ‘hot war’ this time, having a key ally on the ground neighbouring the conflict zone gave the US President the staging ground required to provide effective aid where ordered, in a way that a historically closer ally further from the area of operations simply cannot.
In this revival of a geopolitical view of grand strategy, Poland has proven to be in the right place to be the key player in the new cold war.
