Pro Russian Moldovan Party Makes Significant Admission

2023/06/16
in Politics

Vlad Batrîncea, the leader of a Moldovan faction often thought of as ‘pro Russian,’ has declared Russia responsible for the war in Ukraine for the first time. Batrîncea stated that the socialists have been against the war since its inception, showing a „responsible and wise” position given Moldova’s vulnerability during the conflict between the two great powers.
„Russia is to blame for this war, and other politicians and important countries of the world are responsible for this war. I am talking about those who fuel militaristic rhetoric in every possible way,” he said.

Batrîncea was previously the head of the Party of Socialists before ceding his position to Igor Dodon. Moldovan socialists generally refrained from blaming Russia for the events in Ukraine, with Batrîncea taking an ambiguous line: „What is happening in Ukraine is a tragedy. The war must be stopped! There is too much talk about weapons! I see a dynamic that scares me because there is too much talk about the continuation of the war. There are great powers in the world that have experience in solving and freezing conflicts.”
However his socialist successor, Dodon, believes that Putin is a statesman and patriot of his country.
