The Polish apple season has resumed after a two-week delay due to weather conditions and a warm autumn. Golden Delicious apples are expected to be more green than last year, with the first Gala apples harvested on time and good conditions for long-transit shipments in export markets. Other varieties, like Red Jonaprince, Jonagold, and Ligol, have less colour this season. As production in Poland is lower this season, Genesis Fresh – a major distributor – will have about 30% less volume to supply existing clients.
Due to the delay, new opportunities will have to be postponed to next year, with South America becoming an emerging new market for Polish apples. Prices for export and processing apples are expected to increase, with high prices across the board this season. Demand is strong, and exports are expected to increase in the final quarter of the year. Markets in Asia and South America are performing well, with lesser volumes in Europe and other parts of the world, like India and China. The Polish apple season will be good in terms of shipments within Europe and Asia.
