Officers of Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) detained a Belarusian citizen in early February who is suspected of conducting espionage activities for Belarusian military intelligence, the spokesperson for the National Prosecutor’s Office (Prokuratura Krajowa), Prosecutor Przemysław Nowak, said.
The detainee is identified as Pavlov T., who between June 2024 and February 2026 was allegedly actively involved in operations carried out by Belarusian services. According to investigators, his tasks included reconnoitring critical infrastructure facilities as well as locations key to the defence of Poland and NATO.
Importantly, the activity was not limited to Polish territory. Investigators indicate that the Belarusian also operated in Germany and Lithuania.
After his detention, the man was brought to the Masovian Branch Division of the Department for Organised Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor’s Office, where he was charged with the offence of espionage.
The spokesperson for the National Prosecutor’s Office reported that Pavlov T. has already been questioned as a suspect, but due to the interests of the investigation the prosecution is not disclosing his procedural stance or details of the explanations he provided.
By court decision, the man was placed in three months of pre-trial detention. For the alleged act he faces a prison sentence of at least five years.
The prosecution emphasised that the arrest of the suspect was possible thanks to close cooperation between Polish services and foreign partners. The operation was coordinated with the participation of Germany’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) and Lithuania’s State Security Department (VSD).
