Two Ukrainians Arrested in Poland on Suspicion of Espionage

2025/10/27
in Defence

Polish security services have detained two Ukrainian citizens in Katowice on suspicion of spying for a foreign intelligence agency, according to Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the Minister of Special Services Coordination.

The detainees — a 32-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman — are accused of gathering intelligence on Poland’s military potential. They allegedly carried out assignments that included reconnaissance of the Polish Armed Forces’ capabilities and the installation of covert monitoring devices near critical infrastructure sites.

The arrests were the result of a joint operation conducted by the Military Counterintelligence Service (SKW) and the Internal Security Agency (ABW).

According to Dobrzyński, the suspects’ espionage activities had been ongoing “since at least 2023.”

The case is now being handled by the National Prosecutor’s Office, and investigators are examining possible links between the suspects and foreign intelligence services. The government has not yet disclosed which country the pair were allegedly working for.
