At a recent event in Transylvania, Romania, Viktor Orban accused Poland of hypocrisy, claiming that while Warsaw criticizes Hungary’s ties with Russia, it maintains its own dealings with Russia through intermediaries. The Hungarian Prime Minister also charged Poland with disrupting Europe’s balance of power and weakening the Visegrad Group.
Orban declared that the world’s center of gravity is shifting to Asia, with the West in decline and Europe risking becoming an “open-air museum.” He also announced his upcoming „Grand Strategy” for Hungary, which he says will be based on Hungary’s core characteristics and anthropology.
In his speech, Orban argued that Poland’s actions have altered Europe’s power dynamics by diminishing the Berlin-Paris axis and bolstering a new alliance of London, Warsaw, Kyiv, the Baltic states, and Scandinavia, thereby weakening the Visegrad Group.
Orban praised Donald Trump for his understanding of current global challenges and his desire to restore U.S. national status, suggesting that Democrats oppose him for these reasons. He also criticized Western sanctions on Russia as ineffective, echoing Putin’s view that Russia has adapted rather than faltered.
He claimed that Europe’s attempts to impose its values and democracy are failing, noting that many countries, including China, India, and Turkey, support Russia. Orban argued that the EU should shift from an economic to a defensive role, allowing Central European nations more sovereignty.
Orban predicted that Ukraine will not join NATO or the EU due to financial constraints and emphasized his commitment to peace missions as a „Christian duty.” He believes the EU’s strategy to support Ukraine will fail and that „Trump is at the gates.”
Orban’s remarks were made during the annual Summer Free University in Tusnad, an event associated with Fidesz and Hungarian minority groups, known for its controversial statements.
