The U.S. military has officially announced the withdrawal of its forces from Rzeszów-Jasionka and their redeployment to other bases across Poland. This decision by the White House means that Poland and NATO will now bear the responsibility for facilitating the transfer of Western weapons destined for Ukraine—most of which pass through the Rzeszów-Jasionka airport on their way to the front lines against Russia.
“The mission of facilitating military assistance to Ukraine via Jasionka will continue under the leadership of Poland and NATO, supported by an optimized presence of U.S. forces. Poland and its allies will maintain strong protective infrastructure around this critical site,” the official statement reads.
The coming months will reveal what the practical implications of the American withdrawal from Rzeszów will be, and how effectively Poland and NATO can assume this role. However, the news is certainly not favorable for Ukraine. These developments clearly signal the direction in which the new U.S. administration’s policy is heading—one that no longer rests on the principle of unconditional support for Ukraine.
