Polish prosecutors are investigating a suspected arson attack at a WB Electronics facility in Skarżysko-Kamienna, where components for military drones are manufactured.

The fire broke out on Monday, 31 August. According to information reported by Radio Eska, a masked man allegedly entered the company’s premises by climbing over a fence. He was carrying a backpack containing bottles filled with petrol.

The suspect reportedly poured the fuel onto the ground and set it alight with a cigarette lighter before fleeing the scene. Employees are believed to have seen the intruder, while surveillance cameras also recorded his movements.

The facility produces components for unmanned aerial vehicles used by the Polish and Ukrainian armed forces. The military importance of the plant has led investigators to examine whether the incident may have been intended to disrupt the production of defence equipment.

Prosecutors have opened an investigation into an offence potentially involving an act of terrorism. However, the suspect’s identity, motive and possible links to other individuals or organisations have not yet been established.

The circumstances of the incident are being reconstructed using surveillance footage, witness statements and evidence collected at the scene. Investigators will also seek to determine how the intruder managed to enter the secured industrial site and whether he had previously observed the facility or received assistance.

The incident comes amid heightened concern in Poland and other European countries about possible acts of sabotage targeting defence companies, transport infrastructure and facilities supporting Ukraine. At this stage, however, the authorities have not publicly confirmed that the fire was connected to any foreign state or organised group.

The search for the suspected arsonist is continuing. Further information is expected as investigators analyse the available recordings and forensic evidence.
