One of the largest economic investments in recent years in Małopolska has begun in Kraków’s Nowa Huta district. Polish developer 7R is building a modern logistics and technology complex called 7R Hub Nowa Huta in Ruszcza. The value of the project is estimated at around PLN 1 billion, and the new centre is expected to create approximately 2,000 jobs.
The symbolic start of construction was marked by the laying of the cornerstone on 6 May. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Kraków authorities, the Kraków Nowa Huta of the Future company, and 7R. The city presents the investment as one of the key elements of the “Kraków – Nowa Huta of the Future” project, which aims to redevelop post-industrial areas and give them a new economic function.
Ultimately, 7R Hub Nowa Huta is to offer around 230,000 square metres of functional space for companies from the logistics, technology and manufacturing sectors. The completion of construction is planned for May 2027. According to the investor, it will be the largest urban logistics complex of its kind in Europe.
The significance of the investment goes beyond the construction of warehouses and production halls. Nowa Huta, for decades associated primarily with heavy industry, is gradually to be transformed into a modern economic district combining industry, logistics, technology, science and residential functions. Kraków Mayor Aleksander Miszalski has stressed that this part of the city needs to move from a traditional industrial model towards modern manufacturing and business services.
The complex is to be built in the area of the Ruszcza Logistics and Industrial Centre, near national road No. 79 and the planned junction of the S7 expressway. This location is expected to make it easier to serve companies operating in Kraków and the wider region, while also strengthening the city’s position on the map of industrial and logistics investments in Poland.
7R says the project will be designed with automation and the needs of modern enterprises in mind. The buildings are expected to include solutions supporting energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact, such as an intelligent building management system, photovoltaic installations, heat pumps and ventilation systems with heat recovery. The investment is to be carried out in line with the requirements of the BREEAM environmental certification at the Excellent level.
The city and the investor also emphasise the ecological dimension of the project. The plans include planting more than 2,200 plants, afforesting around 10 hectares of land, creating flower meadows, insect hotels, rain gardens, relaxation zones and bicycle infrastructure. This is intended to show that an industrial and logistics investment can be combined with revitalisation and an improvement in the quality of public space.
The construction of 7R Hub Nowa Huta may become one of the most important development impulses for the eastern part of Kraków. If the project attracts further investors, the former industrial areas of Nowa Huta may gain a new meaning — no longer only as a symbol of heavy industry, but as a space for the modern economy, technology and new jobs.
