Polish Construction Firm Wins Adriatic-Baltic Motorway Contract

2023/11/25
in Infrastructures

Poland’s largest construction firm, Budimex, has won a €465 million contract to build a new stretch of motorway in the Czech Republic. The project will connect the Czech highway with one in Poland, creating a transport route linking Prague with Polish ports and the Baltic states. Budimex announced that it had been selected by the Czech roads and highways directorate to build part of the D11 motorway between Trutnov and the Polish-Czech border. The tender value is 11.35 billion koruna (2.03 billion zloty, €465 million).
The Czech transport minister, Martin Kupka, announced that work on the 21 km section of road was due to begin on 19 December and should be completed by 2027. Budimex will have to hand over a 3 km section connecting the Polish border town of Lubawka with the existing national road in the Czech Republic within 18 months. The D11 highway will eventually run from the border to Prague, but the Czechs still need to build a section of the road between Trutnov and the town of Jaromer.
Budimex has ambitious plans in the Czech Republic, including a bid for a section of the D35 motorway and several rail projects. The Czech D11 highway will link to Poland’s S3 expressway, providing a connection from Prague to the Polish Baltic port cities of Szczecin and Świnoujście.

Founded in 1968, Budimex stands tall as a cornerstone in Poland’s construction and infrastructure sector. Over the decades, this venerable firm has not only borne witness to but actively shaped the evolution of the country’s modern landscape. Budimex is particularly distinguished for its specialized focus on road and bridge construction, where it has consistently delivered projects of the highest quality with precision and efficiency. In essence, Budimex emerges not merely as a construction firm but as a dynamic and integral contributor to Poland’s growth narrative. With a rich history, diverse expertise, global collaboration, and a steadfast commitment to sustainability, Budimex continues to shape the nation’s future by constructing robust foundations for progress and development.
