Fugitive pro-Russian magnate and Moldovan opposition leader Ilan Shor, who was found guilty of a $1 billion bank fraud, has left Israel where he had fled his 15 year sentence. His current whereabouts are unknown.
Shor was accused of channelling €50 million into Moldova to „buy” voters and has organised street protests from Israel to demand the resignation of pro-European President Maia Sandu’s government. The Constitutional Court outlawed his party and barred his allies from running in local elections for other parties. Interpol’s head in Moldova, Victor Tentiu, said Shor left Israel late on 6th November, but the identification of the flight and destination remain unknown. Russia cooperates with Interpol, and Moldova will ask Interpol’s general secretariat in Lyon (France) to take action. Sandu has denounced Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and accused Moscow of plotting to remove her as she campaigns to secure European Union membership for Moldova.
